The location of an iconic mountain in an urban setting offers a remarkable platform for Speed of Light.

Angus Farquhar, Creative Director, has dreamt of creating work on Arthur’s Seat since moving back to Scotland 20 years ago.

“It’s one of those places that comes into mind everytime you come home. Now with the incredible support NVA has been given there is the chance to turn that aspiration into a reality.”

Holyrood Park and its centrepiece Arthur’s Seat began life over 350 million years ago with the eruption of a volcano. The remnants that we see are eroded down to the hard rock that originally flowed within it. The current shape has been dictated both by changes in the earth’s crust and long slow modification by successive glacial actions creating the classic ‘crag and tail’ formation. The site has been used by local people over the last ten thousand years and bears the marks and references of successive periods of occupations.
